Aquarius/Archangel Raphael/Air/SwordsZodiac Aquarians is a lesson to ‘live life on your own terms’[1]. Aquarians are ruled by Planet Uranus, and signifies invention, innovation, space travel and aerodynamics. Archangel Raphael is recognised many religions as the Archangel (topmost angel) of Healing. Raphael is also the guardian angel of the apothecaries, (today being pharmacologists) and the Patron Saint of the young, the sick, of shepherds and travellers[2]. Aquarians demonstrate the fundamental elements of Air of thought and intellect and strategic action. In the Tarot Air is the element of Swords which symbolise the essential attributes of Air and Aquarius.

Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, TaurusIn the Four corners of The Rider Deck’s The Wheel of Fortune X are four small and golden-winged figures. The four figures in each corner symbolize the Four fixed signs of the Zodiac, the Four Archangels Angels, and the Four Elements of the Tarot. Each figure appears to be half-way through reading a book. These books may represent the texts of The Torah – the same mystical scroll The High Priestess II holds (and partially conceals) in her lap. (Equally, the books might be The Holy Bible, The Qur’an, the Veda, or other philosophical teachings.) As with High Priestess, the wisdom of these texts supports Fool's deep intuitions, instincts, and insights. The Hermit’s (IX) deep self-reflection has helped Fool to develop an understanding of who s/he is and, how lived experience has brought changes to a once effervescent but naive Fool. Fate awaits our worldly-wise Fool and like the hub of a wheel or the nub of a compass, must the Fool become firmly rooted and centred in his values and beliefs. The hub of the wheel represents the Eternal Self. It is the only part of the wheel’s structure that does not rise or fall with changes taking place in Fool's life. Along Tarot's second path of the Fool's journey destiny continues to challenge values and visions creating many opportunities for greater self-knowledge. Fool will need be guided by Hermit's lantern of light and rely on the strength and support of the golden wand, to successfully negotiate the spiritual tests and trials ahead.
As Fool wanders along Destiny's twisting and turning path, Fate dares Fool to make meaning of the relationships and situations of an unfolding life. In The Rider-Waite Deck, The Wheel X signifies Fate, Destiny, and sometimes Karma. The Wheel, in its upright position, signifies life expansion that brings a new sense of well-being, success and material gain. This Arcana suggests that like a wheel, our luck and fortune is continually changing, moving and turning. And that sometimes, our fate is driven by forces that are beyond our control. The Wheel X is represented by a large golden coin. Gold is the colour of transformation and healing. Mediating on the colour gold activates the third-eye and crown chakras for attracting abundance, contentment and honours. The esoteric signs and symbols etched onto the gold coin give it the appearance of a compass. On the outer rim of the wheel, the words TAROT and ROTA are clearly seen. Rota is the old Greek meaning for wheel and from which we derive the word rotation. Tarot represents The Fool's Journey - a life of constant change that brings opportunities and challenges to learn about the self.
At the core of The Wheel is the Hub and represents the self. It is the most stable part of a wheel and suggests the importance of staying true to your values. It is from this central position we can 'set our compass' because the interrelation of things, people and events can be seen more clearly and better understood. It is with this central focus we can take responsibility for our actions and better embrace change. I both The Rider Deck and Tarot of Marseilles, The Wheel of Fortune X (10) is the first Major Arcana that does not offer a human figure, personality or Archetype as its focal point. The Rider Deck offers the suggestion of human qualities or characteristics, in the four cardinal signs posted in the four corners of the Card. The 4 symbols represent the Astrological Cardinal signs: Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus and Leo. As The Wheel turns in space, the qualities symbolised by the 4 Sun signs, as does Lucy in The Peanuts Tarot, represents the importance of continued learning to the development of a well-grounded nature; one able to deal with the sudden uncertainties of reality. Like the Rider Deck, The Marseilles' The Wheel X is characterised by mysterious creatures perhaps showing unusual influences and unpredictable events. The unexpected and unfamiliar can cross our path at any time of life. As The Wheel X speaks mostly of destiny and of things that might remain mostly out of our control, the large golden disk in The Rider Deck symbolises abundance and opportunity. These elements often bring some of our most significant life lessons. Life events can appear as coincidences. However, in hindsight, events might be understood as sequences or synchronicities and part of a greater scheme. Perhaps as chapters in The Hero's Journey. The Wheel X represents the certainty that life is never still and that change is the only constant.
The 4 of Pentacles relates to the realm of Earth and physical life, of manifesting and abundance. The number 4 raises awareness of security and stability. This image in this card conveys the feeling of a need to protect oneself and to preserve personal physical resources – energy, time, money and assets, work, investments - that we may use to create that abundance. The figure looks us straight in the eye and clutches their 4 upright pentacles. S/he seems to be braced for a significant challenge. Is s/he challenging us, daring us, to even try and divest of him/her, of physical time, health and energy, endowments or possessions? As an act of self-preservation, the 4 Pentacles can suggest the need for temporary act of self-protection and 'selfishness'. Daily InterpretationThe day before I had had some skin cancers on my forehead, nuked. from my forehead, the result of being an active, outdoors child of the ‘60s with pale and freckled skin. I'd also had a double A & B Flu injection. Feeling a bit flat and achy, I decided to opt-out of a pre-arranged, group-organised visit to a gallery. Tarot readings were deferred and rescheduled. People were disappointed but, as this card can suggest that ignoring your wellbeing - a critical aspect for creating abundance - can only work against you.
On this rather chilly winter's morning after rising early, I shuffled and split my deck of cards in half. The card upright in the half-deck held by my left hand, is my Daily Tarot card. It is the V Pentacles Reversed. The V Pentacles generally signifies a lack of abundance, ill-health, financial loss, or unemployment. Two sad and shabby figures are wandering on the outside of a cathedral. It is dark and cold. The cathedral’s stained-glass window showing 5 golden pentacles, has become a door into the cathedral. One of the two figures appears to be contemplating what opportunities this 'door' may offer. While checking my bank account I noticed a subscription was charging me double monthly withdrawals. I was losing money! I took the information to my bank, who said they would fix it. Two months later, the double deduction continued. I got online to the subscription service and eventually, eventually I got hold of a real person. Problem identified and remedied!
Possibilities for this card, are as many people who face relationship, financial, life-style and work problems. However, a door that opens to opportunity and support should never be ignored. Martha. Greetings Fellow Tarotants! Thank you to all Tarot enthusiasts who have booked their place in this Course. We now have one remaining spot (booking place) in this 2022 Course. I am truly looking forward to meeting all of you for what promises to be a fun, unique and wonderfully engaging program of shared Tarot learning and practice. As we know Tarot can be used for self-knowing, self-care, personal growth and wisdom. Many of you may also use this Course as a springboard to enhance your intuitive and reading abilities and/or for broadening and deepening your own and diverse professional practices in guiding and healing others. As is my own experience, having a personal and professional Tarot practice undertaken with joy, empathy, compassion and good intentions can help to make the world a kinder, more conscious and happier place. The Tarot deck we will be using throughout the Course will be The Rider-Waite (US Games) Tarot. Tarot decks can be purchased in various qualities and prices. The Rider-Waite deck can be bought online for very little cost if you wish to have a 'starter' pack and/or a deck for 'learning with'. Tarot decks and be purchased locally. If you have the opportunity, and feel safe, it's always lovely to visit a local market or bookstore (e.g. Theosophical Society, South Terrace). This gives you the chance to browse the slightly different versions of the Pamela Colman-Smith's original illustrations (as in The Rider-Waite Tarot). Keeping a journal is a great tool for both personal and shared Tarot reading practice. It is, importantly, a super way to increase your intuitive and instinctive understanding of the cards. We will be using a Tarot journal (or diary) to note and discuss the meanings and experiences you have derived from your personal daily Tarot card draw. The daily draw is a home-based practice. Similarly, I will be keeping the group's Tarot journal for our shared fortnightly Tarot card draw. (We'll see how many synchronicities occur!) Exercise books are sufficient for this purpose. From experience, I do suggest you purchase a larger exercise book with a spiral spine (about $4.50); these are available at most supermarkets, newsagencies and large variety stores. On the business side of things ...The Tarot course will commence on 26 March 2022 as planned. It will be run from the very spacious and airy Hall, at 271 Carriington Street, Adelaide. However, the repetition of the number 2 in the Year Date is interesting. The significances implied by the number 2 and the number 6 can be very complimentary. Looking at the 'values’ each digit in the date 2022 (2+0+2+2=6), The High Priestess II gives a prevalence and significance to the number two, tripling the importance of this energy in our lives for the coming year. (In a later post, we will also look at the influence of The Fool 0 which offers the vibration of the number 'zero'. A new adventure.) The energy of the number 2, of The High Priestess II, is highly feminine and fluid. Like water it can be as deep as the deepest ocean; possessing the strange, unique and unfamiliar. It can erode and change the most resistant landscapes. The endless sky, is the space of superconsciousness' perhaps collective consciousness. And, as we live with these dynamic, complementary and contradictory influences, in the essence of pro-creation, we must we weave our own tapestry of life. The High Priestess II signifies that we are born with powerful intuition, insight and the ability to feel subtle energies instinctively and empathically. In The High Priestess II we understand that we are both eternal and ‘unfinished’. Our lives follow the phases of the moon. Events in our life wax and wane under the natural conditions of Earth's duality – of night and day, light and dark, yin and yang, male and female, etc. This continuing change brings growth, fullness and completion and, decline. It forms the essence and value of the experiences of living. The High Priestess demonstrates the capacity for deep feeling and inner guidance as the qualities and attributes we have 'been born with' and remain continually at our disposal throughout our own ‘Fool’s Journey’. Similarly, the decisions and choices we make today - individually and collectively - will always influence our future. Tarot Justice II (1 + 1 = 2) symbolises the universal 'Law of Karma' or the law of ‘cause and effect’. Justice II reminds us to strive for all that is honest, fair and just. Justice II makes her decisions rationally and factually and, by taking a completely balanced and unbiased approach to all aspects or sides of any situation. Justice II represents lawful and truthful acts. She may situations that require some sort of legal or contractual scrutiny or arbitration. Justice II decisions may result in recommendations that are made on the basis of actual, factual and material information. So, when Justice II arrives on the scene, make sure that you have "dotted your i's and crossed your t's" as there is no room for sloppiness in the detail.
Justice II is one of the four Tarot Virtues and suggests transformation of the self. Additionally, we see that the veil raised behind Justice II (The Rider-Waite-Smith) is purple, which is the colour of mysticism, magic and wisdom. Purple signifies our third eye or 7th Chakra, which contains all the qualities of the other 6 Chakras. The 7th Chakra connects us to our inner-seeing, intuition and psychic abilities. If we are prepared to follow her guidance Justice II can help us to perceive our selves and the world around us, in wholly new ways. The Tarot implies that the Year 2022 holds the potential for new beginnings and events that are unusual, exciting and historic. Tarot suggests that 2022 may quite possibly be an adventure of a lifetime! |
