Zodiac, Angels and Elements/3Leo Leo, a natural leader is generally joyful, proud and confident. The Lion is ruled by the Sun, the ruler of life and vitality. Like the Sun, the lions of the Zodiac are known for their strength, loyalty, and reliability. Leos tend to gravitate towards fellow fixed signs of Scorpio and Aquarius also seen in the four corners of The Wheel X. Scorpios appreciate Leo's need for loyalty, and intense emotion. Both Leo and Scorpio can be 'black and white' about their close relationships. In Tarot, Leo is represented in and by the Major Arcana Key of Strength VIII, to demonstrate physical, mental and emotional resilience. Leo, the optimist, typically refuses to accept fear or failure and as such, continues to grow more courageous as they mature. Archangel Michael The Winged-Lion also represents Archangel Michael; the leader of Angels, miracle-maker, healer of the sick and the source of heroism. He is included in the three major sacred texts - the Torah (Judaism), the Bible (Christianity) and, the Qur’an (Islam). In all cases, Archangel Michael is depicted as a warrior, 'even if a peaceful and loving one' (Doreen Virtue)[3]. With the power of good he defeats evil and its embodiments. He is the Angel who rescues, protects, and safeguards us. As with the Zodiac Lion, Archangel Michael represents the element of Fire and is the spiritual force that provides stability and strength we can use to support ourselves and to develop robust and stable communities. Michael's can instil others with the courage needed to face personal obstacles and challenges and, to let experience and truth change us. Wands In Tarot, Wands carry the element and energies of Fire. Wands signify vitality, determination, activity, creation and originality. The suit of Wands demonstrates the qualities of competition, inspiration, personal values and spiritual strength. In Aleister Crowley’s 1944 The Book of Thoth, the suit of Wands is associated with the concept of Primal energy, the creative/destructive, life-force, that moves throughout everything in the universe. Some Yogis[2] suggest that by raising our primal energy we can become grounded, heal ourselves and alter our consciousness to achieve enlightenment. Fire Zodiac Leo, Archangel Michael and Wands of Tarot, all reflect the characteristics of the element of Fire. The element of Fire denotes ‘energy, activity, creativity, passion, freedom, power, love, vision, anger, strength, will, assertiveness, courage, and dynamism’.[1] In many creation myths Fire symbolises The Light; the first element used in the formation of the Universe. Fire is transformative and purifying but can also burn and destroy. The upward pointing triangle when shown in the Tarot, is the symbol for fire.
